Differences between providers
Each power wheelchair provider is different and brings unique qualities to the table. WheelchairForMe looks at each of these criteria and more when selecting the ideal partner for you.
• Each provider develops relationships with different power wheelchair manufacturers. Most providers have access to all manufacturers, but some specialize in specific manufacturers and are able to get top tier products from them.
• Providers can be more or less aggressive in terms of pushing your doctor to complete the required forms in a timely manner. It is always in your best interest to work with your doctor to ensure they fillout the required forms, so you can get your power wheelchair as soon as possible.
• Providers are located all across the United States. While the provider matched to you by WheelchairForMe may not be based in your specific city, rest assured that they have representatives nearby that will deliver your power wheelchair to you and ensure it is what you want and you know how to operate it. Your power wheelchair provider is just a phone call away.
• Some providers can be scam artists and will charge Medicare for a chair they do not deliver or deliver a low quality chair to you. WheelchairForMe DOES NOT tolerate any providers of that nature and works in the mobility community to help eliminate untrustworthy providers. Please look at How to Identify a Scammy Provider for more information on identifying bad providers.
How to identify a scammy provider ?
It is sad to say, but some individuals will take advantage of both you and the U.S. government in order to make an illegal buck. While you will not have to worry about scammy providers while working with WheelchairForMe, if you choose to use a provider not through WheelchairForMe please look at these suggestions to make sure your provider is legitimate.
• Ensure your provider is following all of Medicare’s rules. Do they promise to deliver a chair to you without your doctor’s chart report? Do they coach you on symptoms you should say you have to get a power wheelchair? If so, be wary, they may be attempting to fraud the U.S. government and you.
• When your wheelchair arrives make sure it is from one of the manufacturers in our review section. These are top of the line chairs and manufacturers that can be trusted. If you do not recognize the brand or the power wheelchair seems to be of low quality do not accept it and call your provider or WheelchairForMe for help.
• Make sure your provider is knowledgeable of the Medicare process, power wheelchairs and the delivery process. A scammy provider may not take the time that our mobility consultants have to understand the mobility industry and develop a deep understanding of how the process works.
How can your power wheelchair be no cost ?
Some Medicare patients that are medically required to have a power wheelchair can have up to 80% of the cost of a power wheelchair paid for them by the Medicare program. The additional 20% may be paid by the individual, unless they also qualify for Medicaid or have additional supplemental insurance, in which case Medicaid or the supplemental insurance will pay the remaining 20% allowing the individual to obtain a no cost power wheelchair. WheelchairForMe cannot promise that you will qualify for a no cost power wheelchair, but we will do our best to ensure that if you do qualify for a no cost power wheelchair that you will get the best one possible and if you do not qualify, that we will recommend a budget alternative. We suggest that you fill out our form or call one of our mobility consultants to check if you qualify for a no cost power wheelchair.
Why does the government pay for your power wheelchair ?
The government wants you to have power wheelchair because it saves them money. The government would rather pay for your high tech power wheelchair through Medicare and Medicaid instead of having you injure yourself or negatively impact your health by not having a power wheelchair. The government has done extensive studies that show that having a power wheelchair if you medically require one positively impacts your health, which means the government saves money in the longrun by helping you with a power wheelchair.
What to do if you do not qualify ?
First fill out our form or call one of our mobility consultants to see if you qualify for a no cost power wheelchair. If you do not qualify, our representative will direct you to a budget alternative. While not a no cost wheelchair, our mobility consultant will do their best to help you find a great power wheelchair at the lowest price possible.
Are the electric wheelchairs really no-cost?
The term is no cost or little cost for electric wheelchairs. They are no cost if your second insurance covers the 20% self costs which Medicare is asking for. However some providers waive those costs if you talk to them and explain them the situation you are in. We track and try to include that in our algorithm to make sure you get the wheelchair to the lowest cost possible.
